Revolutionizing Retail: The "Get the Hang of It" Bag

Aliki Rovithi's Award-Winning Design Combines Functionality and Sustainability

Aliki Rovithi's "Get the Hang of It" bag, a unique blend of functionality and sustainability, is a game-changer in the retail industry. This innovative design, which won the prestigious Platinum A' Packaging Design Award in 2011, offers a solution to the common problem of hanger shortage while promoting environmental consciousness.

The "Get the Hang of It" bag, as its name suggests, is not just a bag. It is a cleverly designed product that addresses a common frustration among consumers - the lack of hangers. The bag's handles are actually two detachable cardboard hangers, allowing customers to hang their newly purchased clothes immediately. This design was inspired by the simple observation that hangers are never around when needed.

But the bag's unique properties extend beyond its functionality. It also serves as a statement of environmental responsibility. Made from recycled and recyclable materials, the bag encourages both retail stores and consumers to "go green". By replacing plastic bags and hangers with this sustainable alternative, retail stores can position themselves at the forefront of the fashion world's environmental movement.

The "Get the Hang of It" bag is not just a concept; it is a feasible product. The bag is made from recycled/recyclable paper and cardboard, materials that are readily available and compatible with current manufacturing technology. The cardboard hangers are the same size as conventional plastic ones, ensuring their practicality.

The bag's dimensions are 50cm in height, 59.30cm in length, and 11.80cm in width. This size is suitable for most clothing items, further enhancing the bag's usability. The design project started in 2007 in Athens and was completed in 2009. It was exhibited at SaloneSatellite 2010 in Milan, where it was received with surprise and admiration for its witty, clever, and sustainable design.

The "Get the Hang of It" bag is a testament to Aliki Rovithi's innovative thinking and commitment to sustainability. It is a design that not only solves a practical problem but also promotes environmental consciousness. This is why it was awarded the Platinum A' Packaging Design Award in 2011, a recognition given to world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing.
